Im an avid wargamer, but reading about war was something that had never crossed my mind. So now to catch up 20 years later I started with a basic book I managed to get my hands on in the library about WW1. It gave a brief overview of all the warring sides involved, the equipment and what went on in the divisional level of things etc. So just to create some sort of dialog in this thread can I direct the question back at you and ask you what would you recommend for a starting zone into reading about the intracises of warfare (Modern/Non Modern).

I have Tanker War and recommend it as well. I also have an additional recommendation:

-Fires of October, the Planned US Invasion of Cuba during the Missile Crisis of 1962. Extremely interesting look at plans to attack and invade Cuba during the early 1960s.
