cmano's databases

Postby bluetoad » Fri Oct 31, 2014 12:38 pm

Hi, I'm playing cmano for a few weeks now and there is still a lot of learning curve ahead of me.

For better understanding game mechanics (in particular sensors, there seem to be significant differences in sensors looking quite similar in the in-game database viewer on a first glance) i tried to read the SQL databases (besides that, I once was a database programmer; I can't help it, I have to do such things ;-).

Some values are quite straight forward; however, a lot of values I do not understand (e.g. the complete DataAircraftSensors table). I did not yet find any information online about that. Also the otherwise very useful mega-faq was a dead end in this respect. Does anybody here maybe have some sources on that issue or some knowledge he is willing to share?

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your perspective), editing the DB at the SQL level is not supported, thanks to poor previous experiences. I will say that it is a standard normalized design, but won't go any further.

Hi Rongor,

e.g. the Table DataAircraftSensors which seems to assing sensors to aircrafts has a lot of further entries like SB1, SB2, SMF1, SMF2, SMA1, SMA2, SS1, SS2...
I have no clue about their meaning and about their in-game effect.

Hi ckfinite,

yes, I know. In Harpoon, this somehow was a quite nasty issue. But I'm not interested in editing the database. The scenario editor gives my anything I need.
I'm just interested in understanding the database to increase my personal skills as a player. I had some different behaviour of e.g. f/a-18 radar and ef-2000 radar that I could not explain with the information provided by the in-game database viewer.

I already figured out that's a nicely normalized database, NF3, BCNF or even higher. I also already figured out the basic ER-model behind it. E.g. DataAircraftSensors assigns sensors of DataSensors to aircrafts of DataAircrafts (parallels whith ships, etc). However, I have issues with the attributes themselves, e.g. whether ResolutionAngle or BeamWidth are in degrees, what means SB1 etc.

No help there?

We're not likely to every document process in the game mostly because we don't have enough time and we're still under the hood. This may change when we're old and gray or win the lottery.

What are you looking for? Radar ranges vs. targets?

Just plop them in the editor, switch on the radars, and see for yourself. :P

sb, smf, sma, ... seem to be directions.
I guess it's going to be harder to find out the in-game effects of valuesl like ScanInterval or RadarBlindTime...

I'm trying to figure out that how can i know what weapons are in ships mount?

In database:
DataShipMounts -> ship ID -> shows what mount is in ship -> DataMount -> shows type/name/etc of mount. But now i'm stuck because i don't know where to look to figure out what weapon is in ships mount.
